About Elma Meadows Golf Course
Elma Meadows is Erie County's par 70 along Buffalo Creek, laid out on some of the highest ground of any course in the county. It opened in 1959, designed by William Harries and Russ Tyron, and its reputation is long par 4s. By modern standards it isn't long on the card: 5,922 from the reds (par 74 for women), 6,080 from the golds, 6,327 from the whites and 6,638 from the blacks. The county still calls it no pushover from the back, and it's a regular stage for the Erie County Golf Championship.
The finish is what people remember: 437 yards on 16, 187 yards on 17 to a small green with bunkers around it, then the 18th, stretched to 495 yards from the championship tee, a dogleg left with a fairway that tilts right. Map data shows every hole lined with trees, nine of them bending (eight to the left), 32 bunkers and water on three holes. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
In 2016 the county put in a $1.5 million automated irrigation system, reseeded every fairway and rebuilt the 10th fairway to fix its drainage.
It's one of 75 courses Yoink watches in the Western NY — Buffalo & Rochester area, and the closest alternative is Ironwood Golf Course, about 8 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
