Turning Stone - Atunyote

Tom Fazio's 2004 parkland course, a PGA Tour stop from 2007 to 2010. Waterfalls, wetlands, tree-lined fairways and a lake down the 18th.

About Turning Stone - Atunyote

Atunyote is the Oneida word for eagle, and it's Turning Stone's top course: a Tom Fazio parkland layout from 2004 with rolling hills, small waterfalls, tree-lined fairways, wetlands and native grassland you're asked to stay out of. It's a par 72 that stretches to 7,315 yards from the Blacks (75.8 rating, 143 slope), with Blues at 6,998, Whites at 6,561, Golds at 6,069 and Reds at 5,120. Pick your tee honestly; from the back it's a tour-length course.

It has hosted a lot of tour golf. The B.C. Open was played here in 2006, the PGA Tour's Turning Stone Resort event ran from 2007 to 2010, Notah Begay III's Foundation Challenge came from 2008 to 2014, and the PGA Professional Championship was here in 2016. Golf Digest put it on America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses from 2015 to 2017, and Golfweek listed it among its Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S. in 2023 and 2025.

Every hole is named for a bird you might see on it, from the great horned owls in the hemlocks on 7 to the great blue heron by the swamp on 16, and the 18th is the bald eagle. The New England-style clubhouse overlooks the 18th green and the big lake that runs along that last fairway.

It's one of 3 courses in Verona on Yoink, and Turning Stone - Kaluhyat is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
