About Ticonderoga Golf Course

Ticonderoga is a public 18 in the Lord Howe Valley at the north end of Lake George, off Route 9N, with mountains rising on both sides and the Three Brothers range behind. The course's older site places it near where Rogers' Rangers fought the Snowshoe Battle. What you'll remember from the round is Trout Brook, which winds through the property and comes into play on seven holes. The old club site calls it an open and fun course, and the brook is most of the trouble.

Seymour Dunn designed it: a Scottish-born pro who settled in Lake Placid and was one of the great teachers of his day, with Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen among his followers. The club was founded in 1925 with 200 charter members paying $25 a year. The first nine opened in 1926 and the full 18 in 1932. That same year Bobby Cruickshank and Wiffy Cox came through for a match against the club pro and club champion. Sarazen shot 74 in a 1940 exhibition, and Joey Sindelar won the 1976 state high school title here with 68-66. Local pro Brian Tennyson holds the course record, a 64.

The last decade has changed the place. The old clubhouse burned in May 2018, and the new one has Seymour's Restaurant, the Tap Room and a pro shop. The town says recent work altered the layout of existing holes, built new greens and tees and reworked several holes to handle northern Lake George winters. George Mackey, the pro for 44 years, retired in 2024, a year before the course's centennial season. From the blue tees it's rated 71.4 with a 129 slope.
