About Island Pine Golf Club
Island Pine sits on the southwest edge of Atwater, about 12 minutes from Willmar and Spicer and 90 miles west of the Twin Cities. Darrin Kragenbring designed it and it opened in 1995. The ground is gently rolling rather than hilly, and natural wetlands run through the property. The club says its greens are the largest in the area, so expect some long putts.
The map survey shows how much the wetlands matter: water touches eight holes and you carry it on four, there are about 12 doglegs, and only around 17 bunkers. Trees line almost nothing, and the high and low points are about 44 feet apart, so it's open, walkable ground where the water does the defending. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
It's a par 72, 36 out and 36 in, at 6,799 yards from the blues (72.9 rating, 135 slope), 6,336 from the whites, 5,772 from the golds and 5,194 from the reds. The last hole is the one everyone knows: the club calls itself the Home of the Island Green, and the 18th is a par 3 of 149 yards from the blues and 137 from the whites, all carry to an island. There's a pro shop, a grill, a lounge and an outside deck for after.
It's one of 17 courses Yoink watches in the St. Cloud & Central Minnesota area, and the closest alternative is Little Crow Resort, about 9 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
What it's like to play Island Pine Golf Club
You'll carry water off the tee or into the green on 4 holes. 12 of the 18 holes bend, so position off the tee matters more than length. There's real elevation change: some holes rise or fall about 44 feet from tee to green.
