About Sundance at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort
Sundance sits on glacier-carved bluffs between Torch Lake and Grand Traverse Bay, and from the high spots you see Torch Lake to the east and Lake Michigan to the west. The late Jerry Matthews designed it, and it opened in June 2005 as one of the courses at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort; the name is said to mean "on the shore."
It plays like a big, open course dressed in sand: wide fairways, 110 bunkers plus natural sand areas, and heather-clad mounding. The views are the reason people come. The par-3 17th drops about 80 feet from a tee that looks out over Torch Lake, the 5th looks across to Old Mission Peninsula, and the 18th finishes over water to a rocky, half-peninsula green.
The Michigan Golf Course Association named it the 2023 Michigan Golf Course of the Year, and it has hosted the Michigan Junior State Amateur. Five sets of tees keep it playable if you don't need the tips.
