Rouge Park Golf Course

A 1920s city course in the largest park in town. The Rouge River puts water in play on nine holes, the fairways are wide, and nobody knows who designed it.

About Rouge Park Golf Course

Rouge Park is one of Detroit's city-owned courses, run by GolfDetroit.org in the city's biggest park. It's par 72 and only 6,325 yards from the back, laid out on sloping ground and known locally for wide fairways. The Rouge River runs through it and puts water in play on nine holes, and the woods along it are the other thing you'll be avoiding.

The city bought the land in 1923 with 18 holes in the plan. The first nine was done in 1928 and the second in 1929. Who designed it is a real local question: the course's own 2018 history piece went looking and came up empty, a 1928 city map names no one, and it isn't on the Donald Ross Society's list of Ross courses. As of 2018 it was one of three city courses still operating, with Rackham and Chandler Park.

In 2026, walking 18 on a weekday costs $32, and Youth on Course members play 18 on weekdays for $5.

It's one of 161 courses Yoink watches in the Detroit area, and the closest alternative is Warren Valley Golf Club, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
