About Forest Dunes Golf Club - Forest Dunes
Forest Dunes opened in 2002 in Roscommon, cut out of Huron National Forest, and it changes character at the turn. The front nine is parkland golf through corridors of red and jack pines. The back nine opens into meadows and exposed native sand with scruffy underbrush crossing the fairways, and the course itself compares it to Pine Valley. It's a par 72 at 7,116 yards, and GOLF ranked it 64th on its Top 100 Courses You Can Play list for 2024-25.
Tom Weiskopf, the 1973 British Open champion, designed it and called it one of his top 10 courses. The finish is what people remember: a par-3 16th over 200 yards that carries a dune area, a 302-yard 17th you can think about driving through native sand and fescue, and a par-5 18th of more than 560 yards with a lake down the left. If the match is still all square, there's a short par-3 19th, all carry over the lake with a bunker in the middle, before you head to the Bootlegger Bar or Keeper's Pub.
It's one of 22 courses Yoink watches in the Cadillac & Houghton Lake area, and the closest alternative is The Patriot Golf Course, about 10 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
