About Tamahka Trails Golf Club
Tamahka Trails is the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe's resort course at Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, and the name is the tribe's word for alligator. Steve Smyers designed it, and it opened in 2000 on a 230-acre wooded tract next to the hotel and casino. The ground rolls, which is not something you get much of in central and southern Louisiana.
It's a par 71 with six sets of tees, from 7,152 yards at the back to 4,251 up front, so it can be a serious test or a comfortable resort round depending on where you tee it up. The serious version gets used: the USGA has picked it four times for U.S. Open qualifying, it held a U.S. Amateur qualifier in 2001, and it's a regular site for Louisiana Golf Association state championships. In 2002 Golfweek's America's Best list rated it fifth in Louisiana.
