About Atchafalaya Golf Course
Atchafalaya at Idlewild opened in 2006, a public course by von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, the firm behind Doral, La Costa and the TPC at the Woodlands. It sits at the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin with nothing around it but nature and Kemper Williams Park, and each hole is named for something from Basin culture.
It's long: 7,533 yards from the back, with five sets of tees, so pick the right box. Water is the constant. The map survey puts it in play on 15 holes, six of them carries, and 14 holes are tree-lined. The finish is the one people remember: the 9th and 18th share a single common green in front of the clubhouse. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
The Atchafalaya Golf Commission runs it. In 2026 the greens were being converted to Pure Dynasty 'Stratis' paspalum; the putting greens reopened on August 22, with a cool-season overseed to follow before winter, and green fees were cut 30% while the work finishes.
It's one of 7 courses Yoink watches in the Lafayette & Acadiana area, and the closest alternative is Bayou Side Golf Course, about 23 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
