About Lake Shawnee Golf Course
Lake Shawnee is Shawnee County's course, owned and run by the county on the southeast side of the lake. Larry W. Flatt designed it in 1972 and Craig Schreiner updated it later. It's a par 70 of 6,357 yards from the blues, so it's a manageable length, and the lake is the thing: many holes run alongside it.
The lake itself is older than the golf. It was a Works Progress Administration project, started in 1935 and finished on September 3, 1939. The fairways are zoysia and the greens bentgrass. The ratings are modest (70.2 and a 123 slope from the blues).
It's one of 6 courses in Topeka on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Shawnee Country Club (GreatLIFE), about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
