About Newman Golf Course
Newman is the Peoria Park District's hilly one. The district describes steep terrain, moderate ravines, deep bunkers and a lot of mature trees, with generous greens, and it runs about 6,500 yards. The land was a gift from Lydia Moss Bradley, and it was the Bradley course before it took its current name. According to Peoria historian Norm Kelly, the park board renamed it in 1937 for Milton G. Newman, who joined the board in 1907 and was its president from 1917 until he died in 1937, and board members went to his hospital bed to tell him the course would carry his name.
