About Sage Lakes Golf Course
Sage Lakes is the newest of the City of Idaho Falls courses, on the north side of town. The ground started out nearly dead flat, a half to one percent grade with the Progressive Canal running through it, and the design leaned into that: a Scottish links look, a few water hazards, grass bunkers, and moderately contoured greens. It plays to par 70, from about 5,000 to 6,800 yards depending on the tees.
The name is local. Councilman Melvin Erickson put together Sage Elementary School, on the northwest corner of the property, and the eleven lakes on the course. Dale Mickelsen and Tim Jenkins donated the whole 128-acre parcel to the city. It's easy to walk, and you look out over the Upper Snake River Valley. The practice setup is good: an all-grass range, a short-game area and two putting greens.
