About Skylinks Golf Course
Skylinks sits directly across Lakewood Boulevard from Long Beach Airport, which is why it's there at all: the city built it in 1959 as a buffer between the airport and the houses to the east. It's a par 72, and the course calls itself links-style, with gentle slopes, walkable ground and three lakes that bring water into play. The city's own description warns about several water hazards and plenty of bunkers. The 16th is the hole the course points to, for its view of the airport.
The course you play now is not the 1959 one. The city completely rebuilt it between 2004 and 2006, paid for with revenue anticipation bonds, and held a re-opening ceremony on October 29, 2004. The course site credits Cal Olsen with the design and rates it 72.7 with a 127 slope. The NCGOA named it its 2019 Golf Course of the Year. There's a night-lit 32-station range, two putting greens, a chipping area and practice bunkers, plus a restaurant and banquet space, and it's the home of the annual Long Beach Golf Festival. American Golf runs the course site.
It's one of 7 courses in Long Beach on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Lakewood Country Club, about 1 mile away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
