About Palmer Municipal GC, AK
Palmer is the City of Palmer's course, about 40 minutes from Anchorage in the Mat-Su Valley, and the views are why people make the drive: Pioneer Peak, the Matanuska River and Knik Glacier all show up during a round. William Overdorf designed it and it opened in 1990. The course calls it a links-style layout, par 72 and 7,300 yards from the back, with four sets of tees to pick from.
It's the Alaska Golf Association's most frequently used tournament venue. The AGA State Amateur and Senior Championship and the Fall Jackpot are played here, along with USGA qualifying for the U.S. Open, the Senior Amateur and the Mid-Amateur. So the back tees have seen the state's best players, but with four sets you can play it at whatever length suits you.
Walking is always welcome, and there's a full fleet of carts if you'd rather ride. Warm up on the range and the two practice greens. The AGA lists the season as May through October; in season the pro shop and range run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day, and carts are due back by 8 p.m.
