About Chena Bend Golf Course
Chena Bend is Fort Wainwright's course, and the Army bills it as the farthest north military golf course. The Alaska Golf Association dates it to 1962. It runs along the banks of the Chena River, with several holes right at the water's edge. It's par 72 and 6,476 yards.
The season is short and the light is long. The Alaska Golf Association puts the state's whole season at about five months. By late September the last nine-hole tee times fall in the late afternoon, frost can push back the first ones, and from September 28 to closing it's temporary greens and walking only. The driving range is open 24 hours.
It's a base facility, so civilians need a season recreation pass, which calls for Real ID-compliant photo ID. The clubhouse has the Chena Bend Grill and a full bar, golf simulators for the off-season, and in winter the pro shop rents cross-country skis and snowshoes for the trails around it.
Booking a tee time at Chena Bend Golf Course
Active duty, military retirees and authorized DoD civilians can book 14 days out; everyone else gets seven. Book online or call the pro shop at 907-353-6223. Civilians need a Civilian Rec Pass first, good for the whole season, with Real ID-compliant photo ID, and minors must be escorted. On the 2026 price list, a public individual season pass is 98. When frost delays the morning, the earliest reservations go out first.
