About Rochelle Ranch Golf Course
Rochelle Ranch is Rawlins' city-owned course, a links-style layout by Ken Kavanaugh that opened in 2004 on open high-desert ground at the edge of town, alongside Interstate 80. It sits at 6,800 feet, so the ball goes a long way in the thin air, and the city says the elevation change and views are part of the deal. Expect wind: it's the thing locals plan around.
It needs the thin air. From the back it plays 7,925 yards, which the city says makes it the longest course in Wyoming, but the forward tees come down to 5,706, so there's a set for everybody. The greens are bent grass. Golf Digest listed it as the No. 29 most difficult course in America in 2007.
The course was a gift: sheep ranchers Curt and Marian Rochelle paid to build it. These days it's best known for long drive. In October 2023 Kyle Berkshire hit a 579.66-yard drive here for a world record, teeing off from 12 toward the 14th green because of the wind; the ball carried 515 yards. He came back in August 2026 and beat his own mark with 588.1 yards.
