About Odana Hills Golf Course
Odana Hills is the City of Madison's busiest course, an 18-hole, par 72 on about 200 acres wedged between Odana Road, Midvale Boulevard, Segoe Road and the West Beltline. Bentgrass greens, bluegrass fairways, mature trees and ponds that carry much of the west side's stormwater. It's a full-size test close to everything, which is why it hosts state junior events and the Madison Public Links Tournament.
E. Lawrence Packard drew the plans in 1954, and it opened around 1955 as the West Side Park Golf Course. The state historic inventory notes the routing hardly changed in the decades after, and the stone, bow-roofed clubhouse dates to 1956.
That's about to change. Michael Keiser, the Sand Valley developer who rebuilt The Glen Golf Park for the city, is leading a privately funded redesign of the tees, greens and surrounds, and the city is replacing the clubhouse. The revised plan keeps it a par 72 and preserves the routing of holes 1 and 9. The city expects the course to be closed for 2027 and to reopen in 2028.
