Cacapon Resort State Park

Robert Trent Jones Sr. added it to this CCC-built park in 1974: wide fairways, strategic bunkering and long ridge-line views in the Eastern Panhandle.

About Cacapon Resort State Park

Cacapon's course is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design inside a 6,000-acre state park near Berkeley Springs, under a folded mountain ridge. The state parks describe wide fairways, strategic bunkering and sweeping ridge-line views. The map survey counts 75 bunkers and nine doglegs, with water on only four holes, so the sand and the angles are the test, not the ponds. The park came first. The Civilian Conservation Corps built it under the New Deal, and it opened July 1, 1937, with most of the building done by CCC crews in the early 1940s and the lodge and cabins added in the 1950s. Jones's course arrived in 1974 and turned it into a resort park. Today there's a new North Lodge (opened May 1, 2021), cabins, the restored Old Inn, a spa and dining, which makes it an easy golf overnight.
