About Alpine Lake Resort
Alpine Lake is a mountain resort community in the Alleghenies of Preston County, and the golf course is part of almost 2,000 wooded acres wrapped around a 150-acre lake. The land was Arlie Hull's hunting and fishing club from the early 1930s, became a development called Mountaintop Vacationland in the late 1960s, and got the Alpine Lake name after Morgantown industrialist J.W. Ruby bought it in 1971. The property owners' association runs it now.
The card is what sets it apart: par 72 built from six par 3s, six par 4s and six par 5s. The course itself says the par 3s may be the hardest you'll ever play, and it calls one of its tees “the prettiest hole in West Virginia.” Up at this height the air stays cool in summer, and after the round the deck at the dining room looks out over the course and the lake.
Dress code applies: collared shirts, no T-shirts, tank tops, gym shorts or flip-flops. In the off-season the course invites you to walk it.

The range opens April 9. There are 35 motel rooms on site if you want to make a weekend of it.
