About Palo Duro Creek Golf Club

Palo Duro Creek is the City of Canyon's course, a 10-minute drive from Amarillo. Colorado architect Henry Hughes designed it. The front nine went in first, in 1959, with holes on both sides of Palo Duro Creek; the back nine came a few years later and weaves through the houses of the Hunsley Hills neighborhood.

The creek is the course. It's in play on 14 of the 18 holes, so a round here is mostly about keeping the ball dry. It's a par 72 and not long, 5,800 to 6,900 yards depending on the tees, with Bermuda tees and fairways and bentgrass/poa greens. Brick fences, streets and sidewalks are out of bounds, and the 90-degree cart rule is always on except on par 3s and when it's wet.

It's a busy local course: a Thursday Night Scramble, Women's Night on Tuesdays, Friday Night Couples and a full tournament calendar, including the 39th annual Nose Golf Classic in October 2026, which supports the Ryan Palmer Foundation. There's a range, a practice green, a pro shop and the PDC Grill for a cheeseburger at the turn. Soft spikes and collared shirts are required.
