Edgewood Public Golf Course

Oak-lined fairways on the Red River, tight, with sloped greens and plenty of sand. It began in 1926 as five holes, 25 cents for three trips around.

About Edgewood Public Golf Course

Edgewood is the Fargo Park District's course on the Red River in north Fargo, and the Park District calls it the only course in Fargo-Moorhead lined with mature trees. It's 18 holes, par 71, with oaks along the fairways, and Fargo Golf rates it Advanced. The fairways are tight, the greens are sloped, and there are a lot of bunkers, so the driver isn't always the right play off the tee.

It's been here a long time. Edgewood opened in 1926 as a five-hole course, and it cost 25 cents to go around three times. NDSU's Fargo history project calls it perhaps the most popular traditional-style course in the metro.

Being on the river has a cost. After the 2009 flood, the Park District planned a project on holes 2 through 4, with a new par 3 by the entry road, a new pond and new greens, so every tee and green would sit above the 29-foot flood stage. The old No. 3 green, the lowest on the course, was the one to go. There's a range, practice greens, the Rodney Webb Memorial Practice Area and the Edgewood Tavern for after.

It's one of 4 courses in Fargo on Yoink, and Rose Creek Public Golf Course is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
