Raleigh Golf Association

Public golf off Tryon Road since 1929: short and walker-friendly, with a full Kris Spence redesign under way.

About Raleigh Golf Association

RGA is Raleigh's old public course, open since 1929 and billed on its own scorecard as the city's oldest. It has 27 holes: the 18 the public plays and a nine kept for stockholders, members, leagues and events. It's short, 5,991 yards from the Blue tees (68.3 rating, 122 slope), and the walks from green to tee are brief, which is why it has long been home to senior and women's leagues, juniors and high school teams. Walking is $20 cheaper than riding on the 2026 card.

McConnell Golf has run it since 2016. In 2025 the stockholders signed a long-term lease extension and McConnell put up $3.5 million for a full redesign led by Kris Spence, plus a new range with 60 lighted bays and a teaching center. The deal kept the main tract as golf at a time when Raleigh's housing boom was swallowing courses, though parts of the property may still be developed. Expect work in progress for a while.
