About Neshanic Valley Golf Course

Neshanic Valley is the Somerset County Park Commission's flagship, three par-36 nines (Meadow, Lake and Ridge) designed by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, the team behind Erin Hills. Meadow and Lake opened Labor Day weekend 2004, and Ridge followed in 2005. With five sets of tees, the 18-hole combinations run from 5,050 to 7,108 yards.

It was built on 420 acres of rolling farmland, and it plays open: generous fairways and bentgrass from tee to green, with fescue waiting off the short grass. Wetlands are the real hazard. On some holes they run the whole length of one side, and the 5th on Ridge has a wetland splitting the fairway, crossed by small bridges on the way to a triangular green. The greens have subtle movement and big bunkers. The design gives you a safe line away from trouble, but a bolder line along it leaves a shorter, better-angled next shot.

It has held real championships for a county course: the 2007 MGA Men's Public Links, the 2009 NJSGA Women's Amateur, the 2012 USGA Women's Public Links and the 2014 NJSGA Men's Public Links. The Learning Center has a double-ended range, a short-game area, two practice holes and the par-32 Academy Course (1,420 to 2,019 yards), and the clubhouse deck looks out over the valley to the Sourland Mountains.
