About Omni Mount Washington Resort
The resort's 18 is the Mount Washington Course, a Donald Ross design completed in 1915 for Carolyn Foster Stickney, who commissioned him. It's a par 72 of 7,004 yards, and the backdrop is the Presidential Range, with Mount Washington itself, the Northeast's highest peak at 6,288 feet, right there. The par-5 11th and the par-3 5th are the holes with the views back to the hotel and the mountains.
In 2008 Brian Silva restored the course to Ross's original design, bringing back classic-style bunkers and closely mown swales around the greens, which leave bail-out room in short grass when you miss a green. It has hosted four New Hampshire Opens and the 2010 New England Open.
The history goes well beyond golf. The hotel hosted the 1944 Bretton Woods Conference, which created the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The resort's other course, the nine-hole Mount Pleasant, is older still: Alex Findlay laid it out for the Mount Pleasant House in 1895, it runs along the Ammonoosuc River, and Harry Vardon and Willie Anderson played it. Cornish and Silva updated it in 1989 with advice from Gene Sarazen and Ken Venturi.
