About Deacons Lodge Golf Course

Deacon's Lodge is Arnold Palmer's course in the Brainerd Lakes, named for his father, Deke, and the resort calls it one of his best designs. It's routed through 500 acres of rolling hills, woods, wetlands and lakes, and each hole feels like its own; the resort describes all 18 as privately routed.

The fairways are very wide bentgrass, which helps, because anything that leaves the short grass is in trouble: unless marked otherwise, the wetlands and woods play as hazards, and the waste bunkers are native sand where you can ground your club. It's a par 72 that runs 6,943 yards from the Palmer tees (74.1 rating, 144 slope) down to 4,766 from the Winnie tees. The scorecard warns cart drivers about steep grades, and it's a spikeless facility.

The awards started early. In 2000 Golf Digest named it one of the country's Top 10 New Public Courses, and the resort says Golfweek had it among Minnesota's top five public courses every year from 2005 to 2024.
