About Kentucky Dam Village Golf Course
This is the golf course at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park, and it's as old as the park. Perry Maxwell designed it, and the state says it was built as part of the park's development after Kentucky Dam went up. Kentucky State Parks calls it one of the oldest and most beloved courses in Western Kentucky. It's a par 72.
The history is a little murkier than the brochure. The Perry Maxwell Archive, working from the Paducah Sun, says it first opened to park guests and then to the public under the name Pine Hills Golf Course, and it notes that only nine holes seem to have been built at first, even though Maxwell is sometimes credited with 18.
The newest change is underfoot. In 2025 the state finished a $205,746 project that took out the old bentgrass greens and put in TifEagle ultradwarf bermudagrass, a warm-season grass made for hot summers. Because it's a resort park with a lodge and cottages, it's also one of the most popular overnight golf packages Kentucky State Parks sells.
