St. Louis Golf Courses & Tee Times in Illinois
St. Louis golf goes back to Robert Foulis, a Scot who worked at the Old Course. He built Normandie in 1901, now one of the oldest public courses west of the Mississippi, laid out the first nine in Forest Park in 1912, and designed Ruth Park in University City. Normandie was also one of the four founding clubs of the Missouri Golf Association, which started in St. Louis in 1905 to run the Missouri Amateur. Forest Park hosted the U.S. Amateur Public Links in 1929, and across the river in Alton, Spencer T. Olin hosted the women's and men's Public Links in 1996 and 1999.
Good weekend tee times in St. Louis go fast, and the ones that come back later (cancellations, groups that shrink) aren't announced. Yoink watches the tee sheets at 33 public courses here, from Waterloo, Alton, Shiloh, Breese and Scott Air Force Base, and tells you the moment a time you want opens up.
The longest layout here is Gateway National Golf Links at 7,178 yards; there are 2 nine-hole courses; there is one executive or par-3 course for a quicker round.
Who runs public golf in St. Louis
Public golf here is a patchwork of city, suburban and private-public courses. In the City of St. Louis, Forest Park holds two: the 27-hole Norman K. Probstein course and the nine-hole Highlands, which also has a range and clay tennis courts. Probstein was rebuilt from 2001 to 2004 under Stan Gentry, started by a $2 million gift from Norman Probstein, and now plays as three par-35 nines named for local trees. University City runs Ruth Park, a nine-hole Foulis design from 1931. In St. Charles County, St. Peters Golf Club is owned and run by the city. St. Louis County's Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park holds Crystal Springs Quarry, an 18-hole course that opened in 2001.

Why tee times in St. Louis are hard to get
The season in St. Louis runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
When tee time cancellations happen
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Yoink watches all 33 courses in St. Louis for you. The open tee times sit in one place instead of a dozen booking pages, and your phone buzzes the moment one fits your day, time window and group, cancellations included.
Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Bent Oak Golf Course - 9 Holes, Carlyle Lake Golf Course and Indian Mounds Golf Club.

How do I get notified when a tee time opens up in St. Louis?
Set a watch in Yoink for the courses you want, the days you can play, a time window and the number of players. Yoink checks those tee sheets every few minutes and sends a notification as soon as a matching time appears, cancellations included. You book it directly with the course.
When do tee time cancellations usually show up?
Mostly in the 24 to 48 hours before the tee time, as golfers cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline, and whenever the weather forecast changes. They appear without notice and tend to be rebooked quickly.
How far in advance can you book a tee time in St. Louis?
It depends on the course. Many public courses open bookings 7 to 14 days ahead, and town or county courses often give residents an earlier window. Each course's own booking page has its policy.

Which courses in St. Louis are quickest to play?
Nine-hole and executive courses such as Bent Oak Golf Course - 9 Holes, Carlyle Lake Golf Course and Indian Mounds Golf Club take less time and are usually easier to book.
