About Cog Hill G&CC
Cog Hill is Jemsek Golf's 72-hole public facility southwest of Chicago: four courses, and most people come for No. 4, Dubsdread. Dick Wilson and Joe Lee built it in 1964 for Joe Jemsek, who bought Cog Hill in 1951 and wanted a public course to match the best private clubs. Rees Jones redid it in 2008. The name is a warning to "dubs." Expect tight landing areas, lots of sand and big, rolling greens. From the Black tees it's 7,554 yards with a 78.0 rating and 153 slope; the forward tees play 5,422.
The tournament record is long. Dubsdread hosted the Western Open 16 times, starting in 1991, and the BMW Championship from 2009 to 2011. Tiger Woods set the course record there with a 9-under 62 in 2009.
The other three are cheaper and older. Course No. 1 opened on the Fourth of July weekend in 1927 and has water on six holes. No. 2, the Ravines, opened in 1929 and has ravines on nearly half its holes, finishing with an extra par 3 the course calls the "19th hole." No. 3 has water on nine holes. There's a range with heated Toptracer stalls, a restaurant, and caddies in summer.
