Bailey Creek Golf Course

Homer Flint's mountain course under Mount Lassen: 50-plus bunkers, four lakes, bluegrass fairways, and a lone tree left standing in the middle of the 6th.

About Bailey Creek Golf Course

Bailey Creek is a traditional mountain course in the Lake Almanor basin, with Mount Lassen over your shoulder. Homer Flint designed it, and his sense of humor shows on the 6th, where he left a single tree standing in the middle of the fairway. It goes just under 7,000 yards from the tips (6,996) and 5,381 from the forward tees.

The course lists more than fifty sand bunkers, four lakes, Kentucky bluegrass fairways and Penlinks greens. The map survey agrees on the sand, counting 55 bunkers, and has 17 of the 18 holes tree-lined, water in play on five, and about 86 feet of elevation change across the property. It's about 10 minutes from Chester and 85 miles from Chico, with cottages on site for stay-and-play trips, a practice facility, a bar and grill and a golf shop. Locals can buy season memberships; everyone else pays green fees that climb with the summer.

It's one of 2 courses in Lake Almanor on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Lake Almanor West Golf Course, about 5 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.

What it's like to play Bailey Creek Golf Course
