About Azalea City Golf Course

Azalea City is Mobile's city course, a parkland par 72 that winds through Langan Park. Robert Bruce Harris designed it and it opened in 1957. It measures 6,850 yards from the Blue tees with a 71.2 rating and a gentle 115 slope, and the course calls itself walkable, so it's a comfortable carry-your-bag round.

It has real tour history. As Mobile Municipal Golf Course it hosted the PGA Tour's Mobile Sertoma Open Invitational from its first playing. Billy Casper won in 1959, Arnold Palmer shot 274, 14 under, to win in 1960, Gay Brewer won in 1961, and Tony Lema set the tournament record of 273 in 1962.

A major renovation later replaced every green with Champion bermudagrass while keeping Harris's layout. There's a full range, two putting greens and a chipping area, and range balls run $5 for a half bucket and $10 for a full.
